Okay, like i last posted...i pulled out an engine yesterday....I was told it was a 350. Looking at the block number...I think it may be a 305. I am doing an engine course in September...but wanted a 350 stroked engine. Is it possible to convert this to a 350 stroked....if it is in fact a 305? I know this sounds silly...but I am really new to this.

im pretty sure if u want a 350 stroker u gotta have a 350 lol now thats not to say u cant beef up a 305 but theres a bit of a difference between a 305 and a 350 ya know

Yeah, I realize a 305 is a 305. But if I was also told that a 305 and a 350 have the same block....therefore, if I am reboring etc, can I still get the equivalent to a 350 stroker in this 305 engine?

No, the 305 has a smaller bore. 3.74" compared to 4.00" of the 350. The stroke is the same at 3.48".

Pull a cylinder head off and measure to be sure.

You'd be better off starting with a 350 if you're planning on performance.

You can't bore a 305 enough to get a 350.

You CAN stroke a 305 (to 334, iirc) but the bore limits the size valves you can use so you are limited in performance by the design of 305 heads.

For the money and effort you will put into this project... start with a good 350 block.

Heck, I bet somebody will give you a 307 engine just to get rid of it!!

They have a 3.875" b x 3.25" s so they can be made to run GOOD, imho!!

Better than a hopped up 305...

Look on the left rear of the block where the trans bolts on for a casing number. Once you have that casting number, go to mortec.com and it will tell you if it is a 4" bore block which is USUALLY a 350. Most 350 blocks will have a casting number ending in 010.
