I was reading an older Chevy High Perf magazine and noticed in a buildup article that there was mention of an oil gallery plug adjacent to the Number 5 main cap. I am currently gearing up to assemble the bottom end. I look down all the holes in the rear main area and do not see a plug of any sort. I see a tunnel to the top where the oil pressure sender is threaded to behind the intake. I also see a plug on the deck of the block on the driver side of the engine. Where is this oil gallery plug supposed to go under the rear main cap? Can somebody send me a pic? I am a little nervous now cause I wonder if the previous owner who built the engine forgot to put it in. I had driven it for about a solid month everyday with no problems before the car was stolen. They say without the plug the oil bypasses the filter and the engine experiences low oil pressure. When i tore down the engine everything looked pretty good.

That tunnel you see leading from the main cap register to the oil pressure sending hole is where the plug is supposed to go. It is a 1/2" cup plug and it devides the 2 passages leading to the oil filter to force the oil through it rather than bypass it. You should see a small ledge where the plug will stop, I don't have a block to measure but I believe it's around 1 to 1.5" below the register.
