Hi, I just pulled a 350 sb.

I was wondering...it is only a 2 bolt main...can I still stroke the engine even though it is not a 4 bolt?

Sure.

Add one 400 crank and it's stock rods and use 350 pistons and go!!

Might have to grind some down in there so it will fit, but sure, VERY DOABLE..

You can also get some 4 bolt main caps and have your machine shop drill and tap the holes for them and voila' 4 bolt main block......No worries !!!!!!
Most machine shops can source the caps and I believe that GM performance parts sells them and maybe Summit Racing too.
Good Luck with your Proj !!!!!!:bowtie:

Carl's right!!

But, imho, you will be fine for a mild engine!

You can also main-stud kit it to gain some strength down in there.....

GM sold a bunch of 2-bolt 400 SB's back then.

And right Carl, they weren't hi-po jobbers by any stretch.. But still did fine as daily drivers..

Yeah - for a basic street engine, 2-bolt is fine. Use studs on the mains for a little extra insurance.

2 bolts no problem. If you don't hit it with a bunch of nitrous or spin it to the moon, you will be fine. You would be suprised at how much abuse it can take. Unless you are going to be seeing upwards of 500 hp I wouldn't sweat it. Spend your money on quality machine work and dbl chk all clearances. Balance out the assembly and your ready to cruise. With the money you would save on having splayed 4 bolt caps installed you could buy some fuzzy dice and still have some money left for a BK value meal LOL. Studs would a be a good investment but IMHO 4 bolt mains are overrated for most everyday use.

Yes god 4 bolt mains is a better way to go, but a 2 bolt block can work for mild uses.

Theres people that has ran some fast times with a 2 bolt block, and theres been guys that brakes a bottom end, main cap, etc on a 4 bolt block.

Myself I run an ARP studded 2 bolt main 350. Daily driver with track time just about every weekend, runs 11.40's @ 118 mph, shifting every time on street and strip at 6400 rpm.

For any street combo I would be more worried about the rod bolts than the number of bolts holding the main caps on.
