I have a 70 camaro with A/C and when I took the kick panels off the car, there was this sealer on the back of them that looked like playdo or modeling clay. Apparently, it's used to seal the plastic kick panel to the body. What is this stuff and where can I get it?

Any local body shop supply will have it, it is 3M strip caulk.

You can get a similar product at Home Depot, in the hardware area, for less money.

I haven't abandoned ya'll on purpose, I've had a fairly heavy work load lately and been traveling around to a few car shows. I keep a check on the board but most questions lately there is usually the advice I would give already posted.I chimed in on your engine porn lately, get that thing in and lets have some finished pics! Maybe you can make a few of the pro-touring get togethers this year.

I have some of the 3M strip caulk for putting the AC box on the fire wall, but it seems too small to work for the kick panels. That 3M stuff was strings about 1/8 inch thick. The stuff that I found on the back side of my kick panels for my car and for a donor car was almost an inch thick. Maybe it's the wrong stuff on the panels I have but like I said it was on 2 different cars. Or does the 3m stuff come in different sizes? I haven't looked at installing these pieces yet (I'm trying to make sure I have everything I need first) so maybe they don't need as much as what was on there. How thick does it need to be? Maybe when I get the pieces down (they've been off for 5 years) it will occur to me, but right now I'm not sure.
What stuff do I look for at Lowes/Home Depot?
As always thx for the info and help!

The 1/8 thickness should be plenty, when you install the screws around the vent area it pulls the panel tight against it and all will seal. Do a test fit and if you think it needs to be thicker, stack the strip caulk to the thickness and width you want. It is extremely maliable and just "goo's" together, if thats a word.It is meant to be used this way and is in many spots.

On my kick panels, I re-used the old stuff. I fired up my propane heater, and worked the stuff up into a nice soft ball. I then rolled it out into a long enough piece to make it around the kick panel vent, and re-installed.
