ok i got a vortec motor from the shop I work at and it has valve covers, heads and block.....no intake......just wondering is there a special intake I need to make this motor carbureted, or does any sbc intake fit it.....I looked up the casting numbers on it and its says it is a Gen I crate motor, roller cam, and 1 piece seal for the block.....the head casting decodes as Vortec 5700, L31, 64cc chamber, 170cc intake port, 1.94"/1.5" valves.....so back to my ?....I am going to put this in my camaro but like i said I am missing an intake and distributer(got the HEI distrubuter from a friend)....so i just need the intake....anyone got an idea if I can use a regular sbc intake for this, or do I need a special intake for Vortecs to make it carbureted to put in my car.....if it is a special one does anyone know what the numbers for it are, or where I can get it and possibly how much?......This will help me out alot if you guys can help me..........Thanks Ghost
ps...bye the way this motor came out of a 96 chevy box truck

yes there is a votec specific intake. less bolts and a better holding force than old type heads. eddy makes a couple vortec manifolds. if you are runnning in a stock hood camaro you want the performer rpm, i believe. it will fit under the hood. i know a airgap wont. check summit and also gm, they make a vortec manifold i believe.

I have a performer rpm and the only way it fit under the stock hood on my 79 was with a drop base aircleaner and relatively skinny air filter.

Skaal-tel 79....so you have a vortec motor also?.....if so what was the part number for the edelbrock intake that you used on it?.....I was looking on the summit web page and there are so many....so overall i need a 8 bolt intake instead of a 12 bolt right?.....are all 8 bolts the same then?.....Thanks Ghost

I just put in a vortec crate motor this weekend (GM crate motor).
Ask and I'll tell you what I know.... http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif
GM makes a 'performance parts' intake that's the same height as a peformer rpm. Get a drop base and a shorter than 3" filter and you're set.
PS- I have part #'s for a K&N that's 58/59mm tall

nope, sorry, not a vortec crate, its a stock 305. But the block is essentially the same height afaik. I couldn't say which manifold exactly to use.. let me check online here..
it must be an 8 bolt manifold. My guess would be that all 8 bolts are the same.

67lemanster is right, edelbrock makes some excelent vortec intakes. You can get the performer, performer rpm, or the performer rpm airgap. the air gap is probably the best choice, (and looking at the catalog it is the same height as the performer rpm).the part numbers are:
performer 2116
performer rpm 7116
performer rpm airgap 7516
you can search the prices on jeg's

Go to http://www.sdpc2000.com they sell the correct bolt kit for the Vortec intakes.
Edelbrock makes a few different intakes, and Professional Products makes several also, some right at $100 on Ebay.
Congrats man, you have an engine with a lot of potential! With the right cam and intake, gears and stall, you can get into the 12's!
