I picked up a Muncie 4 speed yesterday, and I'm trying to decode it. On the side of the case is 38(?)25681(?), the question marks are for the didget in front of the question mark, I'm not %100 sure that 8 and 1 are part of the number. This is the number that is giving the most problem, because I can't find a referance for it anywhere.

Also on the side of the case is P0S20A; I think this means P=muncie 0=1970 S=Nov 20=20th of nov & A=M20
then there is 13 9(with a degree symbol next to it)
then what looks like a partial vin number 20N102304, just a guess, a camaro vin since it has an N (norwood)

the tail shaft number is 3857584
the side cover number is 3952648
inside the bell house is a number on the bearing retainer 3915020
and also 35374

on the hurst shifter;
handle 2083
side caseing 391 5403

My brother pulled this out of a 70ish GMC pickup 6 years ago, I don't think it was original to the truck.
Thank you to anybody who can enlighten me further.

20Nxxxxxx should be 10Nxxxxxx for a Camaro. The first digit "1" designates Chevrolet. 2 would be another GM division (Buick, Pontiac, etc.). Interesting that N is in that sequence. Are you sure its a 2 and an N? Post a pic of that number, and of the P0S20A numbers also...Are you sure that S is not a 5?..All your other numbers are right (tail shaft cover, side cover, shaft retainer). Can't make out the case #.

This is what I found going through all the Muncie info I've gone through the last few months:

Case - 3925661 - 1970 to 1974
Tail - 3857584 - 1966 to 1970 27 spline
Side Cover - 3952648 Short boss bolt type with TCS switch on 3-4
Shifter - http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=HUU%2D3915403&N=700+0&autoview=sku

Looks like you have the build date (11/20/70) and style (M20) correct.

Pontiac Firebird, the 1st digit of the con vin is GM division, 1=Chev; 2=Pontiac

Its an M20, 2 rings on output shaft say so as does the A at the end

1 ring M21
0 rings M22

Eric, I see that the other '70 L34 car is no longer on your list...did you sell it?
