Hey guys,

I am having trouble getting this thing setup. Heres the current state of affairs:

It is working fine when it is sitting idling. It holds rock steady about 160*, but once I get out on the road it will peg the gauge (stock gauge & sending unit)

The setpoints are about 140/190 low-high with a 180 thermostat (with 3 3/16" holes drilled in it) now. I have the SPAL temp sensor in the thermostat housing & the temp sensor for the stock gauge in the intake. I have it set up this way because my cylinder heads have no provision for the senders.

I figured this would allow the controller to run the fans, & if the thermo stuck closed there is nothing the fans can do to help that situation.

The other weird thing is I have to mash the "high" button on my controller to get it to work. Also, When it pegs the gauge, the controller will not kick on high, the yellow light is lit but not the red.

I have been stewing on this all night. I think it is my temp sensor location.

Because of the situation I have with minmal ports. would it be a problem to route the heater core feed line to the t-stat housing?

I know there wouldnt be in-car heat until the t-stat opened but thats no big deal to me. I am more worried about the suction port running dry.

The Mk VIII fan is rather powerful, but on the highway you should be pushing more air than the fan can pull, so I think you have a problem other than the fan/controller combo.

Getmore,

At present moment I am thinking its more of a sensor placement issue. The system is acting very erratic. The only changes from a cooling system that used to keep it around 170-180 all the time, is a new water pump, fan & controller. The previous setup used a stock fan & shroud.
