Our 70 (350) has factory A/C but it did not work when we got the car. Think we have all the parts. the plan is to drop a 383/425HP (crate) in early next spring so was wondering where to look for an A/C. Would GM have something that would hook up to this or does anyone know where i could get info?
I checked out vintage Air but sounds like it would be a lot of work to convert to one of their units. Would like this to be fairly easy and NOT tooooo expensive.
Thx for your help!

If you have all the parts already, just use them, replacing what needs to be replaced. The dryer will be junk for sure.

And an orifice tube. You will have to convert it to R134. Is the compressor good?

This is what I do for a living, Mobile AC.
If you have all the factory parts and are in good repair, USE them.
The drier needs replaced, and is available from the parts store.
If the compressor, hoses, fittings, etc have a leak, replace them.
Once the parts are all up to snuff, have it evacuated and charge it with 89% of what the R12 weight was.
Old R12 was 3.25 lbs(52 oz)
Charge it with 42 oz of R134a
Your expansion valve and the POA valve , if working, will be fine as is.

Not sure if the AC was in working order when it was disassembled. But as old as it is, don't u think it would be good to replace the whole thing w/new parts??
We are replacing just about everything with new parts so figured might as well do the same with the AC. But guess it wouldn't hurt to see if any of the orig. stuff camn be used.
Thx for all the info!

Hey hhott71, would you recommend putting leak dye in with the first charge?

a real AC shop will evacute the system, and if they can do it last thing that day and you can leave it overnight if its still holding that vacuum in the morning its probably leak free.
At least let it set for 1/2 hour with the vacuum on it and the vacuum pump off.
They can charge it and use an electronic leak detecter to sniff out leaks as slow as 1/2oz per year.
Use the dye when all else fails.

There is no orifice tube in your system, and you don't have to convert it to 134, you can still get and use 12, which will make it work better.
