When you get all the acc you need to bolt on the front of the engine, its a matter of hood clearence and an exhaust. I have recently put a 454 in my '78, The factory radiator is doing just fine. But If your doing a high performance motor, upgrade the cooling system 73454 07-09-2005, 03:20:00 PM Yes it is. It is a direct bolt in with your current motor mounts. The things you need to work out are exhaust, a larger radiator, and possibly the throttle cable if your 305 has a 2bbl carb. You will need to get heavier duty front springs as well. Pretty much all the small block accessories will work with it. Starter (staggered style - yours might not be with a 305), alternator, distributor all interchange. Make sure you get a fuel pump for a 72 Camaro with a 402 or you will have clearance problems with your steering. You don't want to run a full size pump! The stock fan shroud for the small block works just fine. Other than that, you should be good to do the swap. theflash 07-09-2005, 03:40:00 PM Originally posted by 73454: Make sure you get a fuel pump for a 72 Camaro with a 402 or you will have clearance problems with your steering. The SBC pump has a smaller arm than a BBC pump, but if they are the same the pump should work. as longs as its not a deep tall pump 73454 07-10-2005, 02:31:00 AM Originally posted by theflash: Will an edelbrock mechanical pump work? As long as you don't get the 6 vane POS that they sell you will be OK. The one I am talking about does not fit the Camaro without a baseplate because of where the outlets come out. Once you take the bottom off to put the base plate on it, the fuel pump it will NEVER seal back up. tgw323 07-10-2005, 04:52:00 AM The special baseplate they sell you is not needed. I got mine to work by orienting the bottom & playing with the fittings. 73454 07-10-2005, 01:12:00 PM Originally posted by tgw323: The special baseplate they sell you is not needed. Every last one I have seen does. |
