Just a little update from my engine builder, he said the government removed zinc and STP is the only additive he knows of now with zinc in it. He also said GMs EOS doesnt have zinc as well but it use to. I guess STP lives on. Any inputs on this?

I think OES has Moly in it, which is critical.

Last time I looked at a sight with oil content there was only one brand of oil that had a substantial amount of zinc in it - If memory serves me right it was Valvoline Racing Oil. I have seen this oil at some local car supply stores in straight 30W.

EOS is LOADED with zinc. No moly to speak of. Many oils still have zinc in them as can be reviewed here:

STP is also listed on the above link and doesn't even come close to the PPM of GM EOS.
Here is the VOA (virgin oil analysis) of EOS

Rick, I read bobistheoilguy and they rave about moly. Where would you get this from, other than a motor oil?

In a can at your local autoparts depot- called "Molyslip".

Too lazy to edit my last post. lol
Zinc is essentially gone from newer engine oils (I think it was "removed" other than the naturally occuring bits/pieces by the time oil hit the "SH" classification).
One thing which always seems to get left out of discussions on oils, synthetics, new oils vs. "old school" oils, etc. is that "old" oil mixes were designed for "old" engine layouts- i.e. all steel with some pretty hefty clearances, and things like zinc were important to them holding up well over time and abuse. One of the MAJOR criteria laid out by the SAE in the newer oil classifications (i.e. 'SJ', 'SL', etc.) is its lack of "pollutants"- not so much its actual ability to protect a 30-year-old SBC engine- that would be the government involvement in the scheme, the SAE is just following the setup for classifying things. "Race" oils, are of course, like "Race" gas blends, not under the same regulatory scheme as standard oils- and why some of them lack any sort of SAE classification.

This is where I get all my Moly additives from.
