I am pulling a mild 350 with vortec heads ,cc xe262 cam , and headers. I am replacing with a 454 mildly built with 781 heads, edel. intake and headers. With the power the 350 makes and considering the weight of the 454 am I going to have a slower car? Will the 454 torque compensate or am I missing something fundamental?

The 454 will more than make up for the weight.

This is soley my opinion, BULL CRAP!! a BBC may weight a little more than a SBC but not much. If I have 2 identical cars with the same powered 350 engine. One car is driven lonesome (150lb guy) and the other has 2 people in the car 150lbs each. Now the 2 person car weight is 150lbs more than the other. Is the two person car going to be slower than the other...Maybe by what 1/10 if that? If the heavier 350 car had 50hp and 75ftlb torque more than the other one it not only would make up for it but it would be quicker.
The 454 may weight a little bit more but the power and torque will greatly overcome the weight. That is if the 454 is built to be called a 454.
I have a 454 in my car and it is faster than the 350 I had and its stock with Peanut port heads!
Go the 454!! You will never go back!

(this is just for you certain people) Yes a SBC can produce power levels as a BBC, some are, some are not. But that is another topic
