Has any one tried proform roller rockers. And if so any problems yet?

Premature failure, poor quality, stay far away from them. We had a set of those in service on a jet boat, mild hyd flat tappet cam, and it damaged the roller tips in about 200 hours of run time.

I had the roller -tip steel rockers, broke 2 of them while sitting at a red light. I wouldn't but ANYTHING from Proform, even an air cleaner.

I wouldn't buy anything from ProForm except tools.

Their POS billet baseplate/metering block carb cost me a 302 sbc when it leaned out @ around 6200 rpm and nosed over.Patrick over at www.pro-system.com says they are total junk and he throws them away as soon as they come in his shop.

Proforms are junk
Scorpions are made in Ft. Lauderdale Florida
Last I heard is that they were making the Summit house brand also.

Stay far away. High failure rate, needle bearings through out engine.

I'm using Howards billet alum rollers, Scorpion and harland sharp are great too

Rocker arms is one place I never cheap out on.

I ran a set of their aluminum roller rockers in my old 357, and 3 of them broke in half, got metal shavings in my engine and scared up my bearings.

Ronald, those are the same rocker arms I ran ^

I run Comp Cams Pro Magnum roller rockers in all my engines now.

OK, now I'm paranoid. I bought a set second hand new, unused roller rockers for my BBC and I'm wondering if their the ProForms. These are red anodized with absolutely no markings what so ever on them. I can take a pic with my cell phone later, if it will be any help. I was told they could be the Jeg's house brand (whatever brand those are). Are the ProForms any particular color (saw blue on the Summit link)?

The Proforms I had were blue, and I don't remember if the name Proform was stamped into them or not.

I had a set of proform stamped steel roller tips from summit and one had a crack running from the pressed in roller shaft, right in the blister pack, i had to send it back for another set. I only have about 20 miles on the new set... now I'm nervous.

To tell you the truth, if theres no marking I would STAY AWAY from them. The cheap off brand, offshore rockers are made by 1 place and sold under a few diff brand names and in a few diff colors. Most of those don't have markings unles its maybe procomp or maybe some proforms brand

The better rockers are all marked with brand or logo and ratio.
Howards like I use has the name on top front over the roller tip and ratio on back top.
Scorpion has there logo on top front and ratio on top back
Crane gold race has name and ratio on top front
Jegs has name and ratio on top front
Lunati has name and/or logo on front top
Comp cams is marked with part # and ratio on top front and CC on back side

Because they know that folks with limited funds will buy 'em. They're junk, and they won't stand behind 'em.

Pro Comp, Pro Form, Pro Junk.

This is the last thing you want to hear but...replace them things now! $200 for another set of rollers is better than a new engine. You could always sell them on Ebay as "like new". Someone will give you at least 1/2 your money back.

There are plenty of good choices but most are $300+. For $140 you can get Comps steel roller tip. In the $200-$215 price range, I don't think you'll beat Scorpion (Race Series). They have a Platinum Series thats more $$$ but the Race Series is like $207. Full roller (not just tip)...USA made...and they'll stand behind it. They better stand behind it because they act pretty sure of themselves on the website. "The World's Best Rocker...USA Made And Proud Of It".

Looks like I'll be placing an ad on Craigslist or Ebay  I'm sure somebody will buy them for what I picked them up for. I've got a set of the Scorpion brand on my 5.0L HO Ford truck motor that's going on 80K miles now, so they've obviously proven themselves. Probably pick up another set for my BBC.

well i think that i'll be selling mine too (hear in italy)..
what pisses me off is that i went for the tall valve covers to put rollers in there and now i don't want to go with the stamped one no more.

I've had pretty good luck with 195cc Trick Flows. I chose them mainly because for a ZZ4 block that had 58cc heads and because I already had headers for angle plugs...I needed something to work with angle plug headers and have smaller chamber (62cc's now). Good flow #s and good price. But there are plenty of good heads out there.

Go look around at prices on full rollers and I'll bet you can't find anything made in America @ $199. Jegs and Summits house brand are $200 but unless I can guarantee what brand they actually were then I usually am uncomfortable. I see where people are saying that Summits brand is actually Scorpions. If so, then $169 is unbeatable.

I too have broken Proform (Summit branded at the time) full rollers.

I switched to the Jegs house brand & if the oiling hole is any indication they are made by Crane. They have the little steel insert in the oiling hole that I believe Ive only ever seen on Cranes.

The last place you want to save money is in valve train. A good roller cam/ lifters/ push rods/ rockers are peace of mind. I still have the box for my Scorpions packaged by Kim in November 08 on inside lid. But they are a nice heavy rocker and no issues with them ever.

Get a good set installed then set em, forget em.

Pro-form or Pro-Comp, same quality.
Harbor Freight parts.

The Harland Sharps!!!

shawntmartin
06-23-2010, 02:52:20 PM
Both are good. Scorpions are advertised as "stronger than Crane Gold" and are a few bucks cheaper. And, several people in this thread have used them with no issue. But, both will be fine.

Harland Sharp made the first full roller rockers. I don't know that I've ever heard of anyone having one blow up. They'd be my choice.

have harland sharps on my bbc. rated to 800#'s of valve spring for the big block rockers. have 730 open and they're still on there in one piece so far.

T&D shaft rockers going on soon though. cheap insurance overall but they start getting expensive going to shaft rockers.

all parts have a limited life. some of the better rockers are rebuildable though. "everything" has a life span.

loose valve lash pounds parts,, floating valves,, etc....
keep a handle on valve train limiting speed and they'll last a long time.

had one set of street driven cam dynamics aluminum rollers since 1987. still on my old engine a buddy now has. still in service today. 300#'s of open spring force on that engine.

Those Scorps are already Azzuro Blue, there your choice is made already.

I think either rocker would be fine and had no issues with my Scorpions.

They were 8 or 9 years old???:) So now I have Comp cams Magnum rocker arms.
I wouldn't use cheap ones again. 50 to 60 dollars difference isn't worth the savings if your break one and mess up your motor. I was luckey I didn't hurt ours, when it went!!!:o

So that's what I think!!

The Pro Magnums are plenty strong.
Made of Steel they still have only 95% of aluminumss weight on the valve.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-1301-8/ $148.95
Takes 2 sets for an Engine.

Here's a new one, the Ultra Pro Magnums at $323.95 for a full set
