I've got a 350, w/ vortecs, XE268 and a few other goodies but I have a set of those 1 7/8" primary, 4" tube sidepipes. I realize that they are way too big for this street engine, but Im keeping them because of the cool factor. Is there anything I can do to help offset the header/exhaust size?

really tiny exhaust?
i say sell 'em, get the right size headers, and get the cool factor by other means...such as an efficient horepower machine.

I agree...coolnest factor shouldnt take away from the performance potential, Get the right headers

These guys are right. The coolness factor will fall on its face as well as your engine when you get on it. Anything less than 375ish ponies needs 1 5/8" tubes.

I have a friend in Canada who gained about 100 hp in his 67 Vette 327 going from a set of oversized sidepipes with mufflers to an umderchassis small tube H-pipe setup.

Kinda like trying to blow bubbles in your milk through a straw that's fatter than your head. Ain't gonna work.

hehe, they probably won't bolt to a BBC if they fit a SBC

so i recommend either the Edelbrock 383 Stroker Limited edition (460hp/460 ft lbs.) OR the Edelbrock 440hp Fuel Injected Crate 350...hehe, i would've got the 383 legally for free if the guy who was getting it didn't go to jail (for something completely unrelated to the motor)

You don't have too much pipe, just not enough engine!

go here and check out there inserts. i dont disagree with onovakind but...depending on what inserts where in there what he is saying is 100% correct. however these guys have numbers posted and the loss with a good insert is not much. plus the insert is tunable. this is what i have.

origianlly i had hooker inserts for a year. i took out and went open header/pipe and it was like gaining 100 hp. but it got old. so i did a lot of research and found these guys. over open header against there insert hp is roughly the same and only a little loss in torque. my car is very fast. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif plus i think it is cool and that is what is most important.
