What's a good aftermarket distributor to buy?
My current cap rotor and wires are fine, it's the advance mech. and shaft and gear that are quite worn.
Might as well upgrade it as I repair it. MSD? which setup?
ballpark costs?
Right now it's a coil in cap HEI.

I have an Accel Blueprint unit, that is basically a stock rebuild with good parts in it. If I were to do it again, I'd buy a DUI unit. But it's about double the cost of the Accel ($300 or so).

wow.. just wow. 360 dollars for a distributor.
Maybe I should be more clear- the motor barely makes 200 hp, if that, and I'm not a racer, as much as I'd like to think so. I'd just like a slightly better than stock ignition primary setup.

Then you should probably get yourself one of those Summit or Accel HEI's for $150. I have one in my 383 and works fine for what it is.

There used to be a guy/company that travelled to all the swap meets around Ontario- but I haven't been near a swap meet for a couple years so I don't know what's what. In any event, he sold complete rebuilt HEI's (coil in cap) for $99.00- their name was Fedun's Performance, www.feduns.com (http://www.feduns.com) , in Niagara Falls (905) 357-4988.

Yup, a parts store replacement for 100 bucks is right up your alley for what you want and will work great for you.
