i got a zoom double timing chain from advance auto. and it has where you can set it for 4+, 4-, or standard timing. so i set ir for 4+ cause it said it would give better low end torque. so when i go to line up the marks on the crank and cam sprocket. they wont line up at top dead center. so i made the dot on the cam sprocket like up with the 4+ mark on the crank sprocket. is this right?.

The crank key should be at 2:00 and the same mark at the key way of the sproket should be at 12:00 and the dot on the big gear should line up.
Those are only referance marks and should not be used unless you actually degreeing the cam in. As we have seen from time to time those marks aren't what they are suppose to be. If every thing was perfect there would be no such thing as a degree wheel and indicators. If your guessing you may end up with some bent valves.

here is what ive got so far. ive got a picture. when the dot on the big gear is strait up the key is at 2:00. and when the dot is at the bottom the key is at 2:00. i painted the dot yellow with a marker so it would show up.

thanks for the help. that timing chain was made odd. most chains that have the timing advance have corresponding marks for each setting on the cam sprocket, and this one didnt. guess that is what i get for buying a timing set from a company that specialized in clutches.
