I am in the process of putting my 64 Rambler together. I put a nice little SBC into it. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

So the other day I put the new radiator into it and was about to use an old Camaro overflow tank when I thought "I'll get one of those fancy aluminum ones in Summit". Who would have thought there were so many varieties? Vented or non-vented, Recirculating or Non-recirculating. I thought they were all vented - recirculating.

Any thoughts on what style I should use?

Thanks.

Use a vented recirculating. That is what most of the factory stuff used.

I think the non-recirculating are just "catch cans". They just hold the overflow to keep it from dripping on the ground/track.
The recirculating type allows the coolant that was pushed out of hte radiator due to expansion to be pulled back in when it cools off.

Thanks for the input. I wonder how coolant can be caught by a non-vented catch can. How does it displace the air? Doesn't make sense to me unless it becomes pressurized which then makes it recirculating right? I am going to look for one that is vented recirculating as suggested.
