Hi everybody
Can some one please tell me in total details about the difference between these engines and what are they really and how they differ from each other and why are they called as such. Lastly which one is more powerful than the other.
New to Chevy engines, please bear with me for asking alot cause I really wants to learn.

zz4 is the newer version of the zz3 if not mistaken. Either way they are both 350cid's. The cams are also the same. z44 does have a steel crank. A stroker engine is designation given when the stroke is increased or decrease in comparisson to the original configuration. Example a 355 is usually stroked to a 383 cid's by increasing its stroke from 3.48 to 3.76. The extra 5 inches comes from an overbore of 0.030" in the cylinder.

If I am not mistaken the ZZ3 used the old pink rods and forged pistons while the ZZ4 uses the newer powder metal rods and Hyper pistons.
Also believe the ZZ4 had a slightly higher compression.
The ZZ4 used a different intake manifold also.
The ZZ4 had a slightly higher horsepower rating, 10hp I think but cant remember for sure.
seems like there was more diffences but cant remember off the top of my head.
And like already stated a stroker is putting a larger stroke crank in to increase cubic inches

Silver and Jester
Thanks for all your replies. However I still needs to understands the technical details of all thse engines as I am looking for more power with a Vortec engine that I needs to turn into either a ZZ3 or ZZ4. I do uderstand about the Stroker but having read so many posts on these site I believe I have to avoid the Stroker simply because of the money involved the difficulty in bulilding one. Thus I want to know more about the ZZ3 and the ZZ4 in order for me to make a guided decision. Thanks again and keep sending more answers.

I just bought a "slightly massaged" ZZ4....I do believe that the ZZ3 has been discontinued..... IIRC
My ZZ4 came with the LT4 "Hot Cam" and 1.6 Roller Rockers giving it a total of 395HP and 415 ft.lbs. of torque.
Already thnking about next year....Phase II....Fast Burn cylinder heads, maybe AFR's(tommy is yelling right now "AFR!!!!")....should put it up to about 460HP

The ZZ3 had the forged "pink" rods with hypereutectic pistons and the 1053 forged steel crank, where the ZZ4 has the powder metal rods with hypereutectic pistons and the 1053 crank. I believe the ZZ4 also has the composite timing cover, the ZZ3's is stamped steel.
I didn't know they had different intakes though.

Protour73, Does it means that a ZZ4 is a 355 cc engine with LT4 Hotcam? What cylinder heads are suppossed to be on to make it a ZZ4 besides the LT4 cam. What really makes it to be called a ZZ4. Does it means that if I put an LT4 cam in my stock L31 Vortec engine it will automatically qualify it for a ZZ4? Please Gents, I still dont understands what really makes an engine to be called a ZZ4. I understand about the stroker engine beacause of its long stroke crank. But ZZ4 and ZZ3 still through me out of balance. I really needs to know the technical componets of the latter engines in order to make a well adviced decision. I currently have on my garage floor two complete 2 bolt L31 Vortec engines and one complete 4 bolt Vortec truck engine of which one of them I am planning to change into a ZZ4 if you guys of the board could just show me into the right direction. These engines does not include the one I recently put in my DEville. These are engines that I mentioned are complete with fuel injection manifolds and injectors but are not in vehicles as I bought them from the Goverment Garage auction. Therefore I can play with them the way I want but I dont want to wast money by buying kits that wont turn them into ZZ4, thus I really needs to know what is really a ZZ4 engine? I cancelled the stroker as I heard a lot of machining and work is involved and not a job for a shade-tree mechanics. Sorry for the long posts.
