i have been playing all afternoon with this mini starter, and now have almost 120 thou shims under it? i have never had this issue before. the ring gear teeth are almost square, and the drive teeth are beveled. Any idea here i thought the clearance where they mesh was supposed to be something iclose to a paper clip? I have it where the drive will engage the ringear, but will not snap back on its own, i have to push it back. mind you i am doing this all on the ground too just mock up. i have not put any power to it yet? what am i missing here.

Anothe 1/2 hour of this and i will take a sledge hammer to the whole damn thing. My nerves are running thin today. lololol

Grumpy, don't worry about it not returning on it's own. It doesn't have the return springs the old ones had. When the engine starts it'll return. Just set your clearances like we did on the old starters and you should be ok.

And we set the old starters, and the new ones, with a paper clip. Thats what I did to my last mini starter. Still working OK. Don't think you have a prob.
