How and where do you staple in the A arm dust covers on the wells? on the top? inside by the wheel? And how do you get staples to go through thick rubber and steel? Help We've rebuilt just about everything and this is the question we can't get around and although people think there are a millon of us second gens out there are only a few with these installed correctly. I'm really not sure about the attachment of those pieces. I will be working under the car sometime in the next week or so. I'll try to remember to take a pic for you.

The installation of the slash shields is best accomplished with the fender wells out of the car. You have to remove the old staples (use a dremel and cut them off). Then you check the size of the new ones and ensure that they will go through the holes. You may have to ream the holes to enlarge them a little bit. Then after I put the staple through the steel and the rubber, I placed a block of wood behind the staple and tapped them inward with a hammer then I use a big set of vice grips to do the final crimping. The staples are tough. The splash shields mount under the lip on the wheel well. Good luck.

Did all years come with the splash guards ? The memories fade, but I can't remember my '78 having them...

My 79 didn't have them, and the inner wheels have no pre marked holes for the staples. I think they were more prevalent on early seventies models.
