Twisted_Metal 06-01-2005, 04:19:00 PM Same thing as the alternator. There are two bolts that you need to loosen and you will be able to pivot the PS pump towards the block to give you the slack you need to install the new belt. You need to take the alt. belt off to do the PS belt and you may need to remove the AC belt too, if you have AC. (I don't remember off hand which one is in back.) Personally, I like to change all of the belts at once just because of the way they are stacked. You will have better luck tensioning the belts if you do them in this order... Alt, AC then PS. Remember to retighten the new belts after you have driven for an hour or so with them. They usually stretch a little bit at first. bigd25x 06-01-2005, 09:14:00 PM yep, i found thouse bolts, thanks alot tho, and i already knew about the 1 hour thing, what is the easyest way to put tention on the belt, just pull very hard on the alt? or is there a tool? I haven't seen one in years and I have never used one myself. I just pull by hand or use whatever prying tool fits the location. (Ax/hammer handle, prybar, large screw driver etc.) Be careful when tightening the power steering pump, do not pry against the reservoir of the pump with anything sharp, it is only sheet metal and you can punch a hole in it. (OOPS!! A little something I learned when I was 17.) If you have AC and your PS pump runs a double pulley, you will be tightening against the AC belt and it will add a little tension to that belt too. It can be a little difficult to get both belts tensioned correctly sometimes. So, don't overtighten the AC belt before you do the PS belt. Just get it snug. The final tightening of the PS belt will make it right. If you try to do the PS belt first, the AC belt will tend to push the PS pump back towards the block when you tighten it and it will slack off the PS tension. |
