I have an older B&M style shifter in my '78 and was going to replace it when I put the new center console back. Basically I was going to get the mega shifter from B$M that was made to go into the center console on a Camaro. Anyhow, I have 2 questions. First, where is the best price for these things? Secondly, how hard will it be to replace? I mean, what all is involved and what do you do? I Have never switched one of these before. Should I also replace any cabling or whatever while at it? If so, what is involved there? Thanks much.

Take a look here for istall instructions http://www.bmracing.com/media/products/pdf/9.pdf.

I bought mine at Jegs. I don't know if it's the best price, but shipping was free and fast.

Summit has the Mega Shifter for $176. Comes with a cable and detailed instructions. It's not very hard to do. I replaced mine years ago and it was easy.

So then does that B&M kit for the Camaro come with the cover plate that has the gear indicator?

Also, is there a way to make both that one and the one in the dash work at the same time? If so, then how?

Thanks much.

I Got My B&m Megashifter From Classic Industries For $170 Plus Postage. My Camaro Is A Three Speed Automatic..... The Instructions Are A Bit Confusing When First Read. I Would Suggest You Read Them A Few Times.... As I Did The Job At Home In My Garage , I Had To Jack My 75 Camaro Up And Put 4 Axle Stands Under Her. So I Did The Work On My Back. It Took A Bit Longer Than If You Have Access To A Lift Or Ramp. I Disconnected The Battery For Safety... Inside In The Camaro I Removed The Gear Lever Knob And The Plate On The Console First . I Then Undone The Screws In The Front And The Screws In The Back Of The Console , And Removed The Console Itself. This Left The Gear Lever And The Mounting Unit Exposed. Next I Disconnected The Original Cable, Undone The 4 Bolts Holding In The Gear Lever And Unit And Removed It .. That Left The Original Cable Exposed Through The Floor And Onto The Gearbox. Then I Got Under The Camaro And Undone The Bracket And Cable At The Gearbox. Next Step. Reading And Following The Instructions Carefully, I Attached The New Bracket To The Side Of The Gearbox, I Pushed The Cable Through The Floor, Next I Installed The New Gear Lever Mounting Bracket With 4 Bolts. I Attached The New Cable To It And Tested It Without The Engine Running ....... All The Adjustments Must Be Done At The Gearbox.. The Instructions Tell You Exactly How To Do This..read And Follow Them Step By Step..... When You Are Happy That Your Selector Is Working Properly...... ,its Back Into The Camaro, Next You Install The 2 Switchs For Reverse And Gear Indicator. Plus The Wiring For A Small Bulb ,next You Put Back Your Console And Attach The Plate..then Put On The Gear Lever Knob .. And With All Safety Instructions Followed You Now Have Your B&m Megashifter Fitted And Working Properly.i Dont Think It Is Possible For The Gear Indicator To Work On The Dash At The Same Time As The Console (((because You Lose Some Hardware When You Remove The Original Bracket On The Side Of The Gearbox))))))............ Most Of The Camaro Owners Here In Ireland Have Installed The B&m Megashifter And Love It.... Just Take Your Time Getting Used To It..... Its Great Fun To Watch Peoples Faces When You Take Off From Traffic Lights... Its Worth It Just For That Alone... And The Megashifter Looks Really Fantastic Fitted In The Camaro. Enjoy It.......

Yes, it comes with a plate for the top of the console with a gear indicator. I have mine in the car for 17 years now and the dash indicator works.
