I posted this in the High Performance area, but thought I'd try here also. First of all, I'm an idiot. When I did my t-stat last weekend, I guess I forgot to tighten my radiator cap all the way, and today it popped off and I was obviously spewing coolant and starting to overheat. The weird part is after it happened, I had waaay more power. I usually can't get the tires to break loose at all, even when I'm trying. Trying to get my car home, my launches were way stronger and I had to lay off to lock up and my overall throttle response was way better. I'm very confused????

An engine runs strong right before it blows up. Hot pistons fit tight and give most excellent compression. If you got some miles on the engine, that might explain what happened. Sounds like you are lucky you didn't run it any longer than you did.

The engine is brand new. Less than 2000 miles.

Less parasitic loss for the water pump since there wasn't coolant to slow it down. :crazy:

Did the engine temp ever "spike" during this mishap? The excess heat probably seated your rings all of a sudden. An engine, in theory is supposed to get stronger as it gets broken-in and loosened up a little.

I didn't notice a spike.
