View Full Version : 4 speed gear oil weight? cmonson 03-23-2007, 08:27:23 PM Can someone confirm that the manual trans fluid for the saginaw 4 speed is 80W-90? I am 99% sure it is, but the oil types page is missing from my haynes manual. Lowend 03-23-2007, 08:30:02 PM I normally use 75W90, but I doubt that one could tell the difference with 80W90. Definately use a synthetic oil in the transmision... it's going to be in there for a long time and have the crap kicked out of it. I put mobil 1 into my muncie and it started to clank when going into 3rd unless I really babied it into gear. I've never had a problem with dino in a trans. Maybe if I were running 500+HP I would switch, but my 400HP SB I think is OK with dino... Of course if you put 5w30 motor oil of any sort into a transmission designed for 80W90 than it's gonna act funny. This one is what they currently recommend for manual transmissions.
