I have a 73 camaro I am restoring. car was in pieces when I got. While striping the interior stuff I noticed on the gas peddle there is a switch of some sort with 2 factory leads on it going through the firewall. Any idea of what this might be for?

If you have a th400 tranny that is the kickdown switch.

Yup, it is the TH400 kickdown. The nice part is now you have a switch to kick a N2O system if you ever need it. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

yeah I have a turbo 400 tranny. Still not sure what that switch is supposed to do. Does the end out of the fire wall hook to the transmission? or was there something to hook it to on the carb, engine wireing harness? Is it something I need to hook back up? How and were does it hook in. is there any adjustment that need to be made to the switch?
thanks for the help previous!

The switch sends current to the tranny when you go to WOT that causes the tranny to downshift, pretty much the same principal as a kick down cable but electric instead of mechanical. If you want the tranny to work as intended then youll want to hook it back up. If you need to know where the wires go, pick up a haynes manual with wiring diagrams.

When your tooling along in third gear (D), and you floor the throttle, the transmission will down shift it's self to second gear.

People sometimes calls that passing gear.

On most cars it's done with a cable that goes from trans. to carb.

But on a th-400, it's electric. On the driver's side of trans, right above the pan theres a male spade plug sticking off.

Thats for your kick down.

Your throttle switch hooks up like this...

1 wire on switch goes to switched 12 volts
other wire on switch goes to that plug on side of transmission.
