I have done alot of searching lately after I noticed that the old trusty AC Delco PF1218 I have run for years is now smaller and want to switch to a different brand possibly now that the car is almost running again. I put together this little chart to help organize what filters cross reference with the 4 most common AC Delco oil filters used on most any Gen1 SBC & BBC from what I found. I left Fram out as I don't use them and from what I can see most gearheads don't any longer. Aside from that if you see any errors, or other good filter alternatives please post up. HTH

Thanks. I'm printing that list up. I'm not happy with the AC Delco "downsized" filters anymore, so I'm shopping for something better.

Glad to help!

I did as many cross reference checks on each individual filter makers website to try and verify that these are correct and as accurate as possible.

The only list I am not 100% about is the PF1218 list. I am not all that sure that all the other filter manufacturers have updated their cross reference #'s to the new design. Just a FYI.

why are there different AC DELCO oil filter numbers for pre 86 sbc? I thought there were only 2 that were compatable. One for a truck (long) and one for a car? (short)

What is wrong with Fram? I don't claim they are great, but am just curious.

25 is the shortest,35 is a lil bigger, 35L has a synthetic medium,1218 used to be the next largest, and 932 was the 2 quart truck filter.

Nothing wrong with Fram, more of a personal dislike from what I have seen cutting them apart and heard over the years. And as I said above, most (not all) seem to have the same feeling about Fram so I left them off. I do not mean to offend anyone by that so I can add them in.

Not only are the AC Delco's smaller they're not made as well as they used to be. I switched to Napa Gold 1061 (Wix) . Highly superior.
