I posted a Question about heads, I was told to use 416 heads on my 70,s 350. Has any one done this and how did it work?

That's head from a later 305. It has considerably smaller smaller chambers (~58cc) than your current 350 heads and will raise compression, but it also has smaller valves. Lots of guys had put them on smogger-era 350 motors which came with very low compression to get a nice bump in torque for very little money. But they're not what you would call "high performance". The airflow potential is rather limited so upper RPM performance is not what you want them for on a larger cube motor.

I've run them on an stock bottom end GM crate engine for a while now... I figure it raised my very low compression ratio from 8.0-1 to upwards of 10.1-1... I also installed a comp camps magnum 270h cam.

The heads have 1.84 / 1.5 valves in them, when I had my heads gone through, I bought a set of 1.9 intakes and had them open the heads up to fit... I'm not sure if really helps all that much since the runners are smaller... read somewhere that the runners are 150 cc... I'm not sure what stock smog 882 350 heads had stock for runners...

I run 93 in it with no problems, however I'd say it borderline.... I've tried 87 and even 89, lots of pinging....

I love this combination, it's a budget motor, and as damon said, it's better for low end as it seems to run out of steam right around 5000 rpm, but I rarely ever take it up that far...

My 305HO, -601's measured 160 and 160+ cc's intake port size and I figure the -416's are about the same!!

He, He!! You want to see a small intake port SB head, then hunt up an old '56, 265" engine's -306 head at 118 to 120 cc's or so!!!

I have a pair, they are the old "sparkplug trough" heads!!!!!!
