I have the opportunity to pickup a 383 short block for a 71rs car I'm doing and have some questions if anybody can help out with advise as I'm mechanically "challenged" to say the least lol...The idea is to build a motor that fits under a stock hood and can be used as a driver....
1) I have a holley marine carb (believe it's a 850 the #'s are 80466 & 1304 below that)( was originally used on a 454cu motor with a 250 B&M blower)...Is it possible to use that carb on a 383 or is it way to much carb.
2) If the carb is ok,,,,what is a recomended intake (stock hood), cam & heads....The motor is ok on pump gas from what I'm to understand (think it's 10 point something to 1 compression ratio IIRC)
3) Can I use the pullies/pump etc from a 1972 camaro 350cu motor to run on the front of this 383 motor?
Basically I have a 72 resto-mod project and had so many parts from that car that I decided to buy a shell (the 71rs) to use up all the parts... The 71 is intended to be a respectable driver quality car and I'm only looking at the 383 short block because it's available cheep from a friend (unfortunately he has had a death in the family and don't want to bother him with questions right now given what he is going through)....So help and imput would be appreciated and thats all the detail I have currently to go on and would like to plan out a few things......Thanks
