I am working on a Qjet. After cleaning the throttle body with carb cleaner, I washed it off with a degreaser and water, in a bucket. I was using Marine Clean, the stuff that comes with POR15. Anyway, it turned the throttle body black. Has anyone run into this before? I was able to clean it up so now it is a dull grey, but it definitely is changed. Carb cleaner won't cut this stuff, and gasoline doesn't do much either. Any ideas?

Ummmm, nope. You had some sort of weird chemical interaction of some kind. I use Chemtool or Berrymans carb dip to do the overnight soak and then do the detail work with an old toothbrush and a spray can of carb cleaner.

The throttle body portion of the carb should be nice shiny bare aluminum.

Maybe beadblast it or try Eagle spray aluminum wheel cleaner to brighten it up. There is also Eastwood's carb refinish dye/paint to restore it to original color. I did mine with the Eastwood and it looks original.

Other than appearance, are there any issues with using the throttle body as it is?
