Guys,

I am gathering the stuff for my upcoming 454 swap.

The engine came from a Corvette and has a short style water pump on it now. I will buy a long style pump if it will make life easier in the long run.

I don't yet have any brackets, etc. so I have no meaningful sunk costs to consider protect.

No a/c in this car, just alternator and power steering.

I just want to get it running with simple, inexpensive accessory brackets and will probably just get them from Ramsey Chevy while ColdBastrd is still there.

So, which style pump would you use?

Thanks.

If you're going with stock GM brackets, get the long water pump. You'll prolly have lots of room to play with ANYWAYS.....so don't worry about clearance....

Then again, if you want to spend the # on some NICE brackets....get the serpetine belt system from someone....one belt, no adjustments, no throwing them off, no misalignments.... http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

I've never thrown a single belt off either of my big blocks. Same bracket set too. Now small blocks is a different story. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Oh, and by the way, yes, get the long water pump. It will fit with a stock fan and thermal clutch and a small block shroud. It will sit slightly inside the shroud, but it will fit nonetheless. Install in this order: Shroud, fan, radiator, radiator retaining cap.

I'm putting a 396 in an 81 camaro. I just bought the bracketts off e-bay..75.00 for alt and P/S that included the bolts and spacers...all new in the pkg. water pump pulley was another 35 bucks.
I just got the headers on today and hope to fire it up tomorrow.
