View Full Version : best place to buy AFR 305 heads Silver 79 Z28 03-20-2007, 01:09:46 AM Where is the best place to purchase AFR 305 BBC heads with the CNC chambers at the best price? Thanks Grumpy 427 03-20-2007, 01:23:46 AM You need to look around, but i am glad to see you buying the cnc chamber heads, i did best money i ever spent Urban Samurai 03-20-2007, 01:25:52 AM Go to www.buyafr.com they will take care of you. They will match anyone elses price. I know that jegs has them for 1999.00 and buyafr will match the price the cnc that sheldon is talking about is around 300.00 extra. One real nice thing about them is that they have them in stock..... yes no 3 - 4 month wait time. Lowend 03-20-2007, 01:28:09 AM There is literally no profit margin in AFR heads; like 15% for a Master WD. Don't expect to find any huge discounts out there 79ZED 03-20-2007, 01:54:34 AM http://www.lewisracingengines.com/ Though I didn't buy my AFR 315's from Mike ( didn't know about him at the time) he's a straight up knowledgeable guy. He posts regularly on the Team Chevelle site, http://teamchevelle.com/ where he is well respected. Give him a call, he wont steer you wrong. As Lowend mentioned, don't epect a fire sale on AFR any time soon.... John Damon 03-20-2007, 12:15:03 PM If you buy them from anywhere other than AFR directly there will only be one reason- because they happen to have them in stock, not becuase they're cheaper. Buying from AFR directly takes a multi-week wait at a minimum (multi-month wait in the case of their small block Chevy heads). AFR stocks NOTHING in inventory- everything is built to order. Some of their resellers buy a whole bunch of complete heads from AFR and bear the cost of keeping that inventory in stock for those impatient people who don't feel like waiting- like maybe yourself! Agreed, margins on those heads are razor-thin (many have told me the same thing). And keeping thousands of dollars of heads in stock ain't cheap for the reseller either, so don't be expecting them to give you much of this thin profit margin. BEWARE OF DIRT-CHEAP AFR HEADS! Keep in mind that AFR also sells bare castings. Some companies buy them, finish the heads themselves (with unknown parts, unknown specs, unknown quality and unknown flow potential) and then sell them as "AFR heads". The price may look good, but remember that you won't be getting any of AFR's CNC porting or chamber work. And, let's face it, that's really where all the magic is in these heads. pdq67 03-20-2007, 11:00:49 PM Ditto!! http://www.lewisracingengines.com Say hello to Mike from old pdq67!! jakeshoe 03-21-2007, 12:47:40 AM Mike Lewis can save you some $$ on AFR's... Silver 79 Z28 03-22-2007, 11:18:48 PM Thanks for the replys guys, I did call and check with Mike and he told me he was not a dealer for AFR. I had already talked to the guy at buyafr.com and gotten prices from him. He answered all my questions and said he would be able to ship me the heads I wanted (AFR 305 with the CNC chambers) this Friday. He said they buy them as complete assembled heads from AFR and never take them out of the box just reship them to me. I will have my Eagle 6.385 H-beam 3D rods, SRP pistons, zero gap rings, and balancer tomorrow. Flywheel should be here next week then it is off to the machine shop with the block. jakeshoe 03-22-2007, 11:23:54 PM Thanks for the replys guys, I did call and check with Mike and he told me he was not a dealer for AFR. You must not have gotten in touch with Mike Lewis, he is a dealer for AFR. I assure you as I recently helped with a motor that used a set of AFR's purchased from Mike at my suggestion. He doesn't stock any heads, but he is a dealer. Silver 79 Z28 03-24-2007, 11:06:14 AM I am not sure who I spoke to there but they told me they were not an AFR dealer. I do apprciate the help and suggestions though, cant wait for my AFR 305 heads to get here. 79ZED 03-24-2007, 06:40:07 PM Don't know who you spoke to, couldn't have been Mike Lewis. He would have saved you a few $$ on the AFR heads and anything else you probably needed. Too bad. John Marv D 03-24-2007, 07:17:19 PM You could probably buy the ones maliboost has. By the time he get's that pile together, there probably won't be an fossile fuel left on planet earth. He might as well sell them ;) jakeshoe 03-24-2007, 07:28:44 PM You could probably buy the ones maliboost has. He needs his blood pressure pumped every now and then. Maliboost 03-25-2007, 12:52:19 AM ROFLMPhAO. Marv you just KILL me sometimes. Im sure I will find SOMETHING to burn in this thing when I get it running. dont worry my friend, It will get together eventually. There are only 3 places I would get heads. one is from the Mfg, 2 is Mike Lewis, 3 is Chris Uratchko. If I was looking @ a new set of AFR's, I would probably get them from Mike. the guy knows his Chit. Bob |
