Well, Ive had my camaro for two years now and just want to thank all "NastyZ28" guys for the incredible help. My car is prob in the best shape it's been in years.

Anyhow, the little stuff is pretty much taken care of and Ive climbed the 2nd gen learning curve....I know a bit.

Now it time for the big stuff: POWERTRAIN

Its a pretty tired (I think pretty much stock) 327 with emissions equip. Q-jet.

Ever since Ive had it (2 yrs) it has blown blue smoke when I start it the second time of the day.

That is, if it sits for a day or two it wont smoke at start up. But after the first start, every other start that day it will blow a bit of (I think) oil smoke. 3-5 seconds worth.

Reading the site this most likely is an intake leak. Or possibly oil leaking past the valves. True?

I dont drive it all that much, but still it doesnt really consume that much oil. Usually only a quart or two between oil changes.

What would you do?

A: Aint broke- dont fix it.

or

B: Wait for it to get worse. (it may have gotten a little bit worse lately)

or

C: Aint broke- fix it.

thx guys!!!!

It's probably oil leaking past your valve stem seals. It will get worse over time, but you can drive it without doing damage. I'm no expert at this, so you will want to get other opinions as well. :)

Sounds like oil leaking past the valve seals to me too or worn valve guides.

I see you have double hump heads.. With that being the case I would lean towards worn valve guides if they are the stock OE guides still. The double hump heads are anywhere from about 35 to 42 years old.

I have had a set of #462 1966 double humps for the last 8 years. 6 years ago I had to have the guides replaced and I went with bronze guides.

If you're wanting to build an engine for it, do it now! At least you'll be able to drive the car while your building the engine. An engine swap will only take a weekend of your time, so pull it out friday night, and be driving it around sunday afternoon! :)
