Hey guys!

Im going to Iraq for a year in July, and when I come back Im going to restore Barry (my 79 Camaro.) Subframe connectors, Moser rearend w/ 3.73 and posi, Total Hotchkis suspension, TH400 trans from Hughes, aluminum rad, electric water pump, serpentine pulleys... the works

Im still having trouble on what Im going to do motor wise.. Barry wants a small block, but I wanna do a big block.

I was thinking, if im gonna do a small block, I was thinking of a 406 (and possibly a 434, if I can make it safe to run). On the big block side, I would buy a 540 from Shafiroff.

I want to run lows 11s and maybe mid 10s w/ normal aspiration, and still be able to keep him on the street.

Whenever I try to come up with a build for a small block, I can never seem to get the cam/cyl head combo right... Any suggestions on what kind of small block I could build?

There are those 454 sbc crate engines! http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_755841_-1_10763

Good luck with whatever you do, be careful in Iraq

It will be cheaper, imho, to build a decent BB that can grow as you want more!!

It's pretty easy to get 550 hp out of an old 454 P/U block-based 496 and if you want more, switch to a solid roller cam and you are looking at 650hp....

I only have like $38 to $4,000 in mine at about 9.8 to 1 CR and 550 hp at 5500 rpm and 580t at 4500 rpm. I just call it my great big "tow-truck" motor b/c I built it for max. midrange grunt b/c it is grunt that moves our cars!!

NOW please realize that you will have to mod your car to plant this much power w/o breaking stuff right off the bat.. So factor in money to do it too..
