can anyone give me any info on this? I have a 2nd gen small block, Is this possible? How much work is involved? I seem to recall it requires tilting the engine and tranny. any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

I seen a guy do it once. It didn't look easy. By the time you loosen everything up, might as well just pull the engine, you've already done the hard part.

Ive done it several times take ouit the motor mount bolts and raise the motor from the top with an engine hoist, drop the pan and bolt her up. I tried the floor jack on the Harmonic balancer once too and that cost me a crankshft.

Thank You guys so much for the replys

Below are the posts related to changing the oil pump, I don't want to, but this is my last resort. One reply mentions using double distributer gaskets, I didn't try that but now that I think of it I probably should give that a shot.

A lot of the posts mention cam end play but my gen 2 block uses a cam plate and so does my cam, so end play is not adjustable. The only other thing that was mention was the oil pump which does run very high pressure. I was going to swap it for a MEL- M155 oem pressure pump.

The first post has a picture of my shredded gear

The second mentions the oil pump possibility

After these posts I tried running a iron gear but after 3K mi. it showed signs of accelerated wear, nothing like the melonized gear in the picture but a sign something still isn't right.

Thanks again guys.

Another quick question, Is there a pattern test you can do on these gears like you do when setting up a ring and pinion?

I changed a oil pump in my 72 chevelle with the engine still in the car. I will never do that again. I had to disconect almost everything and jack the engine up as high as i could. Then i had to fight the oil pan to get it off. Looking back the whole thing was not that safe with the way i had the engine supported. It would have been easier to just pull the engine and put it on a stand.
