I spun my motor to say 7400-7500 within a 5 minute period a few weeks ago and after the second time I heard a light knocking, not ticking.(spooky) First thing I thought was the motor has to come out. 1 mile from home I limped it and put her to bed...3 weeks after swallowing the fact I fired her up and "VIOLA" no noise after a 20 minute warmup.
Note: have stock oil pan with stock refined pump. My clearances are all tight. And I was a hair low on oil.

it kinda sounds like maybe it ran dry ofr a short ammount of time. since you said you were low on oil a little bit the oil may have all been on the top end and not drain into the pan fast enough for the pump to pump it out. iono if it would have damaged the bearings enough to need a disassembly, maybe someone else could give more insight on that.

My bet is rod bearing damage. Why did you spin a BBC to 7500 anyway?

Elguapo, I got another one itching for assy in the shop. Had a bad day and felt abusive that night I guess...Im thinkin it took a little babbit too. But why no noise on cold start? 7K is my usual extreme max. This little motor seems to love Rs the way new factory engines do. Ive ripped new belts off perfectly aligned pullys numerous times. That dont happen on BBs.

I'll bet that if you drive it, the noise will come back very quickly. Maybe the planets were in perfect alignment for that brief 20 minutes? http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif
