1. What year were these made and were carbed?
2.What cars did these come in?
3.What was the hp on these?

Im just curious because my car has a 305 pass side dipstick and is painted black. It has the HO heads. It has a regular HEI and Q Jet from the mid-late 70's. Is it a the LG4, LU5 or L69? how can I tell which one it is? I know when it comes down to it really is just a boat anchor but its nice to know what I have. It does pull pretty well compared to the 305 my 79 came with. Im actualy suprised by the 305 in my 80 for only having headers and duals it goes a lil. My 79 had Headers and duals as well and just felt slower.

I know they came in the F bodys, and I think corvettes. I don't think they where installed in other cars though.

For the F body....

83 Z28 and trans am 190 hp @ 4800 240 ft lbs @ 3200, 9.5:1, 202/206* .403"/.415" lift cam, L69

84 Z28 and trans am Same specs.

85 Iroc-Z and trans am Same specs

86 Z28 and trans am Same specs

86 Iroc-Z and trans am same specs.

All came with computer conrolled Q jet 4bbl carbs

They were also put in all years of the Monte Carlo SS (back in the 80s when they were RWD) but were rated a few less HP due to differences in induction (single snorkel air cleaner) and exhaust. Same engine, though, and still referred to as the L-69 in the Monte as well.

They probably put them in a few different G-body cars other than the Monte, but the F-body twins and the Monty are the models that leap immediately to mind.

The Monte motor was rated at 190 HP if memory serves me correct. Early '80s versions were decent also. If you want to keep the 305, this is the one to have http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif

Just for reference- the only difference on the HO's vs. a standard 4-bbl carb'd 305 was which heads were used and the camshaft (and as touched on by Damon, the exhaust would affect the numbers a bit). The point? You can make any 305 output more power than a stock 305HO setup by putting on an aftermarket intake and changing the cam (headers would be nice too).

cool so I probably have about 190hp instead of the 145hp engine. Did I loose any HP from slapping on the older style Q Jet? I plan on putting my RPM Intake and Eddy Carb. I hope with those mods and my Headers and duals maybe Ill have a 225hp engine at the crank?

A well jetted Qjet will do as good as a Holley http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif
