Hi

Is it possible to get a 327 starting from a 307 CI engine ????

Which steps should be involved in doing that swapping ???

What exactly must i do on the engine to finally get a 327 ????

Thanx!!!!!!

I know you'd need to get a 350 block, and you should be able to use the 307 crank to achieve a final number of 327. Help me out here guys, correct me if I'm missing something.

You're sharp as usual Sharpeye http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif

327 is a 4 inch bore block and a 3.25 crank.

wouldnt 307 heads have to small of a CC as well? IMO a 307 is equivlent to a 305 not great performance wise but would be fine for a daily driver if its currently is in good shape

Right on MulletMan1980; in fact, that (307 heads) is exactly what I have on my car right now with a 350. At the time, it was my daily driver, so I needed small-valve heads for economy. They are 185 castings. I'm willing to bet he'll want something more than that though http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Why not bore the 307 out to .060" over with true flat-top pistons and you will have a 316 motor that should run very good for it's size!!

Use a set of 305HO, -601 heads, a Crane 266/266 hy-cam, a Holley, 600cfm, 1850 carb. on a good old 300-36 dual plane if it will fit under your hood, (or a Preformer if too tall) and a set of 1.625" four tube, long headers and I will guarantee it will put a smile on your face that Mr. Clean can't wipe off!

And I would also use Mr. Gasket .020" thick steel shim headgaskets. You should be right at 10 to 1 CR. so will need to run good pump gas.... Otherwise use a about .038" thick composite one to lower the CR. down to about 9.7 or so.

I ran a combo very close to that for a while, 307 bored .040 (313), flat top pistons with Felpro steel shim gaskets, .015 thick compressed. 305 HO heads with 1.94 and 1.50 valves that were pocket ported and gasket matched to a Felpro 1205 intake. Edelbrock Performer Plus cam and intake that was gasket matched as well. Long tube headers and duals with a Holley 600 on top.
It had good low end torque, put out a solid 320 at the flywheel at 5000 rpm, and was a good daily driver with a little ass when you needed it.

I now run a 425 hp 389 (383 .060 over).

a 307 is really nothing more than a stroked 283.. and anyone who knows 283's knows they can be built to rock..

a 305 is just a POS...

you'd need to bore the 307 .125 over which i dont think is possible...

find a 350 block and a 307 crank.. they will drop right together.. then you have the makings of a 327..

Sh!% can the 307 if you are serious about building a motor.

If you are short cash get a used 350, or, if you have a little bit of cash, buy a cheap rebuilder 350 shortblock and slap the the 307 parts on it.

Either way you are going to have 40 lb/ft of torque over the built 307, and you will have a platform that is worth improving down the road with better heads, cam, intake, etc.

or as 1981coupe400ci said you could do the opposite of that nad have a 350 crank in a 307 block. which with custome made pistons you would have a 328. plus it is out of the ordianry and not something everyone has already done. this may be becasue it is just easier to get a old 350, but i love to see new combos like that plus if someone came up with a decent set up for a 307 to make good power there are tons of old 307's hanging around.

I always enjoy it when you break out your ole 307 build. Its one of those things I think would be fun to try.
