Alright so Ive got the chance to buy a 93 z28 with the lt1 and t56 combo for 1900. the guy says the car starts right up but blows white smoke out the tail pipes. He says its the head gaskets he thanks but i don't know enough to be sure. What i need is everyones opinion on whether this would be a good start for a decent pro touring street machine. The car will be mostly street and cruising but i want to be able to get up and go with ease. So lets hear your thoughts. thanks Jeremy

As long as it's not a cracked block! The head gasket is the likely culprit.
LT1's are stout platforms to build a really good pro-touring machine. Late model technology but mounts in just like a older small block.
Take a read on my EFI swapping guide for an idea on what you'll be up against. It's targeted more to TPI's, but much of the vehicle prep work is the same.

alright im doing more searches right now so i can try and make a decision....as for if the block is craked is there anyway to really check that? the only way i know how is to have it hot tanked and checked at the machine shop, but i have only been doing this whole engine rebuiling thing for a few months. Also if the block is cracked then can i just swap the heads and intake onto my gm 260hp crate motor or not? thanks so far
p.s. ULTM8Z you have an awsome car man thats pretty much the look im going for with my 75

1993 LT1 engines are not the best candidates for swaps. The computers are different from '94-'97 computers and I have heard of other things that are different. Not saying the swap would be impossible. I got my '94 LT1 and 4L60E donor car for $550.

That's too much money for a 93 LT1.
The 93 motor is speed density and does not use a MAF, it also has a "chip" vs. flash memory.
I paid $2300 for my LS1 / 4L60E
Keep looking ;)
