Here's the deal. Went looking for a 427 for my 79' Z-28. I know I should be putting in a 454, but I've never had a 427. Anyway went with my neighbor to southern Idaho to his uncle's farm, err massive personal JUNK YARD!!!! In the shop I found 5, pieces and parts to 5 various BIG BLOCKS. All disassembled, missing cranks, heads, etc.. Ran some #'s of the casting's on everything. 396 blocks and heads, one set was oval port 65-66 396-427 closed chamber. Sets of 73' and 74' 454 heads. 454 blocks, one 72' 402 block, and one missing the crank with peanut port intake of unknown size. A few of the heads were missing the springs and some missing the valves. I hope you get the picture, none were complete engines.
My Question is, Should I make an offer to buy all 5 or get one and take a chance of getting something good? Or any ideas on a good price for the parts??
Or buy them all and make a HUGE profit selling the rest to the board members?

buy them all build one killer motor out of the pile, donate one to the person suggesting this, then sell the rest for a huge profit to the rest of the board members. Jim

I would say get the whole pile of stuff if possible.

However- without knowing the exact configuration and condition of the pieces- nobody here can give you a ballpark price. One thing to keep in mind about "farm" piles- alot of the pieces may be from truck engines (i.e. tall-deck blocks) and/or may be on the ground because the engine gave it all up one day.

I might suggest that you be VERY conservative in anything you offer for the pile- 3/4s of it may very well be junk once you get to go over it in great detail and/or pay a machine shop to check things out.

Eric has a good point, but if I were you, and if you have the place to keep all of them, and you can get them all for dirt cheap (and I mean cheap, see above for reason) then I'd go for it.
