This is kind of a continuation of my other thread:
http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79881

Ok so I picked up some Seafoam and the Gunk oil treatment. I also got some Royal Purple 20-50 synthetic and new plugs.
Guess I'll try pouring half in the crankcase and the other half in the carb and runing it for a little like the instructions say. Then let it sit for a half hour, fire it up till the smoke clears. Hopefully during that time that will take care of the sticking lifter. Then I'll drain it well and put in some synthetic for the first time. Then I'll change out the plugs.
Does this sound like the right plan of attack?
Should I go ahead and also throw in the Gunk oil treatment into the crankcase or will the Seafoam itself do the trick?
The reason I ask is the Seafoam says to just add it to the oil and leave it. Where as the Gunk it just a 5 minute treatment before changing the oil. I really dont want to mix anything in with that expensive Synthetic:eek: when I'm done.
Any thoughts or comments?
Also I usualy change my oil every 3-5K miles, now with the synthetic how often would you suggest going?
Thanks again!

I would do the Seafoam first, then do your oil treatment b/c the seafoam might put some crap in the oil that the Oil Treatment will get rid of.

Thats just me talking.

I wouldn't run seafoam in the oil for a long period of time. It is a detergent, and yes it will clean up everything. Including the gunk keeping your seals from leaking. Ask me how I know :(

your treatment plans sounds good except that i would not change the oil until you've run the seamfoam thru the motor .doing this allows contaminents in your oil and is not good . also i'm not a big fan on synthetic oils especially in higher milage cars .after using products like gunk or seamfoam the seals are very weak with a higher milage engine and introducing a a thin synthetic oil may cause alot of annoying oil leaks

What you got??? A sticking lifter??

Pour a small bottle of good old Marvel Mystey Oil in her and drive her for 15 or 20 minules and see if it doesn't cut loose!!

If it doesn't, you gotta bigger problem!! Like a BAD LIFTER!!

And if it let's loose, just drive her and go on..

That LUCAS stuff for sticking/noisy lifters works great, even in 4 cyl cars.

I just Seafoamed a Grand Cherokee and it smoked for 15 min after I started it up. That's with a complete tune up.....plugs/wires/cap/rotor....

But I will tell you that it ran like a top afterwards....but like mentioned, let it suck up about 1/2 a can and let it sit.....then put in new plugs....

SoCal,

If the Gunk product you are talking about is the Motor Flush, then this product can only be used before draining the oil!

The Seafoam product works well in the crankcase but is similar in consistancy to the Marvel Mystery Oil. Either MMO or Seafoam can cause the engine to smoke for awhile following adding to the crankcase. If you have high mileage and dried out valve stem seals, this is common.

I would suggest just using plain old petroleum based oil for the next 2-3 oil changes. Using the flush and the Marvel Mystery Oil or Seafoam will help remove the varnish and sticky deposits that hang-up the lifter. After the problem subsides, then I would suggest you make the switch to the Royal Purple.

if you can swing the extra cost, the racing RP is much better than the SAE off the shelf stuff. You motor will thank you for letting it have oil with more of the stuff the EPA hates, ie. zink. I ran the SAE and racing back to back, with a couple days of running SAE I tried the racing, same weight. Much better. More consistant preasure after exstented drive time, much smoother engine. Also much less oil consuption over time.
