Hey guys,
I got a couple questions. I'm looking at buying a new cam, lifters, rockers,and push rods for my camaro. What all do I need to identify, as far a heads and carb and intake, before I decide which cam and parts I need to get?
From what I've been reading around the board, it would be benificial if I knew what typy of heads, carb, and intake I have before I actually get the cam and parts. I'm looking into a couple places here around the Island (Oahu) before I try to order off line. If I don't get the gear here, what place on line would you guys suggest that I order from?
Thanks for all the help guys. It's really nice to have you guys to turn to when I have questions about my car.

Heads are 1st.. Actually, figure out your honest intended use.. then pick a head, or figure out which you have.. then pick a cam that will compliment the heads, and your intended use.. But keep in mind what rear gears you have, and torque converter stall if auto tranny.. Also need to know your compression ratio of the motor..

Intake, if its for the street, a dual plane is best, all out strip, single plane.. Carb, 350 cubes or more, for a performance motor, you want at least a 750cfm..

There is more to it, but the most info you can gather on your motor, the better..

As for parts, I think Summit racing or Jegs will be your best bet..

Here is some info that I pulled off of Jegs when I was investigating Comp cams.
268H Series
This is a very versatile cam. It is a great high performance cam for small blocks and a powerful cam for big blocks. With its noticeable idle and great all-around power, the 268H cam is great for daily driven performance vehicles. The 268H cam is an ideal cam for pickup drivers who want major power increases. It is also good for big blocks towing heavy loads equipped with lower optional rear end gears
270H Series
Great cam for high performance driving in street machines. The 270H has a rough idle in small blocks and a noticeable idle in big blocks. This is the largest cam that can be used with a stock torque converter. The 270H should not affect power accessories, but should be used with headers and 4bbl carburetor.
280H Series
Best for serious street machines. This cam has a definite rough idle and will sometimes affect power accessories. It can be driven extensively on the street or raced on the weekends. The 280H needs an aftermarket converter, intake manifold and headers.
Here is the info on the stock cam(LM-1 (49-state) 350 (4bbl) V8 170 bhp @ 3800 rpm, 270 lb-ft @ 2400 rpm.): Stock Cam specs: Hydraulic, Lift: .390/.410 (intake/exhaust), Duration: 310/320 (i/e), with 1.5 rockers.

I go by this..........

250 cam = 8 to 1 CR.;

260 cam = 9 to 1 CR.;

270 cam = 10 to 1 CR.;

280 cam = 10.5 to 1 CR.;

290 cam = 11 to 1 CR.; and a

300 cam = 12 to 1 CR!!

So go from there...
