View Full Version : Exhaust: What should i go with?
73camaro73 04-23-2005, 10:42:00 PM Hey im heading to the exhast shop sometime this weeek. im just wondering what suggestions people have on what i should go with. I dont want it to sound like a beater but i also dont want it to be quiet. i was think true dual with one pack on each pipe. any suggestions to get me a loud mean exhaust?? sound laws dont matter. Thanks.
rscamaro73 04-23-2005, 11:28:00 PM Glasspacks are outdated...I'd get just about any other mufflers though....
CamaroMan79 04-23-2005, 11:55:00 PM If you want something thats not going to break your wallet I would go with either dynomax or hooker mufflers. Wayne is right about the glasspacks, plus they sound like crap imho.
sikzdrivr 04-24-2005, 08:35:00 AM Magnaflows are another good option. Their making a new x-over kit for 2nd gen camaros that come with polished stainless steel straight through mufflers.I have some of their mufflers with a hedman x-pipe, they sound like music to my ears. They flow great too.
Z169 04-25-2005, 10:46:00 PM Hello! I just had 2.5 inch exhaust along with Dynomax Super Turbos installed on my 77 Zed and I find it not to loud and a nice deep rumble. L.P.
cattmann1 04-26-2005, 02:35:00 AM Flowmaster has a kit out on the market I think it is called the thunder or something like that . Friend of mine installed it on his 72 .It comes with slim 50 mufflers for a nice in floor fit, tail pipes with nice hangers and also a h pipe and everything to attach to your headers.I purchased my tail pipes from flow master and my mufflers seperate and kick my ass for not checking this system out first.
MulletMan1980 04-26-2005, 05:14:00 AM I got a summit kit. It sound good but it seems to hang low to me. Might be how I installed it. It sounds really good to my ears. Not tin can echo like flowmasters. I like Magnaflows....they even made my Honda I used to have sound good. Ive had dynomax ultra flows on a car once and they were nice too. Yeh glass packs are as outdated as my fav hairstyle. Heres what Id go with in order
1.Magnaflow
2.Dynomax UltraFlo
3.Dynomax Super Turbos
4.Summit or any generic Turbo Muffler
5.Flowmaster
6.GlassPacks

I installed the American Thunder System. Easy to do and great sound!!!
MacDaddy 04-27-2005, 06:40:00 PM I got the Jegs 2.5" kit. It works pretty well, and sounds great. Sounds great at WOT, and isn't too loud at cruise. It has a very deep rumble to it.
The mufflers are made by IMCO, and are a turbo muffler type.

slmmr75 04-27-2005, 07:08:00 PM I got my exhaust from Pypes and think that it sounds great. It is a 2.5" headers back with a x pipe and a set of Ultraflows.
81Baby 04-28-2005, 08:53:00 AM I second the sound with the Jegs exhaust kit. It really does sound good, but we could not get it to fit the car. We ended up taking the whole thing to a muffler shop and they had to remake most of the pipes.

Do you have some undercar pictures of your setup? Sounds? I'm really interested in the Pypes system, how much does it go for, and how much are the Ultraflows?
Joes79cpe 05-01-2005, 12:54:00 AM Has anyone looked into putting side-exit exhaust on their 2nd gen? Looks awesome on the stingrays and was just wondering if it's even do-able and how it would look.
If it does fit and anyone is interested, I found somethin for ya!

I had those on a very nice 77, one of my first Camaros. It was the Hooker super com version though (corvette style) They looked fine & sounded great, but I was constantly burning my skin onto them (2nd degree burns at the most) as I exited the vehicle. I sold them a few months later & went with a nice dual system.
Supak76 05-01-2005, 08:30:00 AM Couple weeks back we just put a Jegs 3" dual kit with Dynomax ultraflows....i highly recommend them. Sound....is bad ass esp behind a 406 http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif
Adam G 05-01-2005, 09:07:00 AM I'm sure this posting might make a few people say: "What is he nuts"?, but, I had to replace the original resonators on my '77 Z28, so I chose Dynomax turbo mufflers. Didn't like them at all. For a stock setup, they were just too quite, due to the fiberglass matting inside. Got rid of those, and went with a classic, the original thrush 'mini' turbo. Their still sold in the Summit catalog, bargain price, less than $20 each. Their dimesions and look are practically the same as the original resonator, and sound great.
Kasey74 05-01-2005, 12:53:00 PM Try www.flowmastermufflers.com/cgi-bin/flowmaster/17104.html (http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cgi-bin/flowmaster/17104.html) .The crossover muffler hang's in front of the tank/ behind the rearend, pipe's are 2.5". I have'nt bought the system yet, but is the one i'm considering.
Z-WIZZ 05-01-2005, 10:31:00 PM i went with the JEGS 2.5 set-up also. nice sound, good system for the $$$ whole thing with crossover for about 2 bills.
BigBlock73 05-02-2005, 06:58:00 AM The Flowmasters are listed at $631.99
WOW,way to much
Kasey74 05-02-2005, 07:27:00 PM $630.00 ? That's pretty strange. I have two performance shop's where I live here in Canada that will sell them for $480.00 Ca(About $400.00 US )
