I just finished reinstalling my new engine for the second time its a 383 small block 80-85 with right hand dip stick. its leaking oil out the back of the engine before i took it out i installed dye in the oil after i got it out with the fly wheel removed the cam plug and oil galley plugs where dry. I watched and helped the guy who built the short block replace the oil pan gasket and the rear main. its like its flinging a light pattern around the inside of the trans housing on to the starter drive and the oil filter so far it wont drip just siting in the garage on stands but after driving 3-4 miles there is a little bit on the oil pan. sorry about the long post i just need some help i dont know what to do i hate a leaky engine. thanks for your posts

I had a simialr problem on my set up last ear and my leak eneded up being for the oil passage plug on the drivers side of the distributor on the manifold. It wouldnt show up until it got on the transmission bell housing or the occassional drip from the corner of the oil pan. It drove me crazy that the leak was on the opposite side from where it ended up dripping. It might be worth a look.

Too high pressure of an oil pump will cause problems too.
