I have a ZZ4 350 Crate engine in my 1969 Camaro. I just finished installing a set of gear drive timing gears in it. The stock 8 inch harmonic balancer does not push on far enough to let me pulleys align now. The crankshaft pulley is sticking out exactly 1/8" too far. What can I do?

I tried removing the harmonic balancer and re greasing it and then re installing. no luck. Same issue again. The outer lip of the harmonic balancer is exactly 3 1/8" from the block. I have been told it should measure 3 inches. It makes sense since the pulleys are off by 1/8". Please help... any suggestions? Can I simply grind down the end of the harmonic balancer to allow for the 1/8"? It may be the new gear drive crankshaft gear that is thicker than my stock crank shaft gear? not sure...
THanks

If your handy you could make 1/8th'' spacers from aluminum(or steel)and install them behind the other pulleys..Or space any brackets that need to be in order for the pulleys to move forward an eight inch.. You could probablly grind the balancer also, just clean it up good before reinstalling.. I aligned all my pulleys with the engine on the stand and never threw a belt.
Good luck

Thanks! I was considering either that route or even having the new timing gear that mounts onto the crankshaft chamfered at a 45* angle so it would allow the harmonic balancer push on that much more. The harmonic balancer is chamfered at the end, so it would mate and push on another 1/8" for me.
Thanks for the suggestions...
