Why? gregh 04-27-2005, 10:34:00 AM Usually it's for clearance, you can't always fit the headers in without removing the starter. But than can depend on the exact make & model of headers. MikeM79 04-27-2005, 11:37:00 AM Depends on the starter too. If you are using one of new nifty mini starters you may be able to leave it in place. Who knows, maybe the headers will clear with the stock starter there. Many times instructions are generic in nature. If you have to yank the starter then disconnect the battery first, assuming your hot battery cable goes to the starter mounted solenoid (as per stock).
