I'm pulling the driveline from a 79z to use in my 81 sc. First time pulling an engine - everything is unhooked, need to borrow a load leveler to get it out. going to go over the engine/tranny - new fluids, pull oil pan, etc. anything other thoughts on what to check to see if this thing runs ok. was told the car ran when it was parked but that was a few years ago. ok to start it on a stand for a short time?

while you have the pan off you might pull the main caps off and look at the bearings. it is realtivly easy and it is a good way to seeif the engine has been abused or not. or even how old the bearings are and if they are original or not.
i wouldn't start it on a regular engine stand. the stand will most likely flip over from the torque of the engine.
