Is there an easy way to ID a cam with out taking it out?

No, not really.

B/c you would need to degree it in the engine using a degree wheel and a dial indicator w/ a magnetic base and a pointer to sit either right on a lifter's edge OR on the valve retainer to get timing and then back divide by the ratio of the rocker to get lift.

Imho, not easy to do at all and be really accurate..

Actually it's sometimes hard to ID a cam when it is out. You can check lift while it's in the engine and get an idea of the performance level if over stock but that's about it.

agree with pdq,, and need lightweight checking springs or a solid lifter,, if checking at the valve retainer with hydraulic cams,, because of the lifter plunger trying to depress some at lift. most aftermarket cams of quality have the grind numbers stamped on them. can still be a guess sometimes at best. good luck.
