My buddy just bought a 78 Chevy pickup with a 350 in it and I'm trying to help him with some parts.

The intake looks like a late 50's or early 60's cast iron s.b. chevy intake. It looks to be set up for a Carter AFB or possibly Holley carb. The numbers on the intake are 3844459, then it has GM 3 below that. It also has stamped either I184 or 1184. Can't tell if the first character is an "I" or a "1." Can anyone give me info about what this came off of and year?

Also, it had a Mallory UNILITE distributor, part#3748201D. On the truck it was hooked up to some type of resistor. Should it be hooked up to a resistor and if so, what voltage?

Thanks for all the help guys.

3844459 decodes as this.....

1963-65 327 4bbl iron AFB carb used in A, B, X, and Y body cars with 300hp. srvc replacement.

So would this have any value to someone restoring an older car?

The second set of numbers is the casting date I = 9th letter = 9th month = Sept. 18, 1964. As a service replacement it will only have value to a restorer if the original it replaces is not easily available. OE is most valuable, followed by service replacement then anything else. Since this model was used on A, B, X and Y body cars, there were probably a good number of originals floating around at one time, but it is more than 40 years old. Look around in places like ebay and Hemmings to see if anyone has something similar for sale and what they want for it. Good luck.

And fwiw, it is about the BEST of the cast-iron 4-barrel intakes back then before the Q-Jet!!

I have a 300hp/327, AFB intake.... Good intake!!
