I have a 1979 Camaro with a 1976 350 engine. The part numbers are different on the temperature senders for these two years. Is the difference in how it screws into the enging block or in the signal it sends to the guage or both? In other words should I buy a sender for a 1976 350 or for a 1979 350 or will neither one work properly?

The gauge and sender must match. So you will need a sender for what gauge you are useing..

This goes for stock and aftermarket.. In your case you need the sender for a 79 camaro

AHH! I just fired up my 70 today and took it down to the car wash, the temp was just pegged !! Over the winter I swapped in a instrument cluster from a 76. So I'm guessing I need a 76 Temp sender then?
Thanks !

If the guage came from a '76, you need a sender for a '76.
