'80 z/28 mostly a cruizer but would like to run at the local 1/8 mile track sometimes. Car runs good, fun to drive. Will post pics. when I figure out how to.
Any suggestions that might run better. Maybe different cam/intake combo.
Thanks

LTjames 02-25-2007, 04:27:21 PM you shouldnt use the stock intake....use an aftermarket aluminum one. It will work MUCH better with your combo...
jakeshoe 02-25-2007, 04:38:01 PM Flattops with 781 heads in a 454 makes about 7.8-1 compression. Bumping compression to the 9 or 10-1 ratio really wakes these motors up.
You can swap pistons, or heads to get the compression up. Other than that you need forced induction :)
rustbucket79 02-25-2007, 05:49:58 PM Hmmm, that combo is SCREAMING for a nitrous kit, talk about a dual purpose terror. ;) A big shot plate with the 225 jets, let it rip! (yes a single plane intake is required to make that work)
lorent Z/28 02-25-2007, 05:59:16 PM Thanks for the welcome and the good info.I was wanting to try a different intake, kinda leaning toward rpm air gap. I have plenty of hood clearance, I think.2 or 3 in. cowl.
Would like to do some head work and piston swap later on, but kinda want to ride it around for awhile. I know as soon as I run it down the track I'll want more.
I do alot of searching on here, but still have alot of questions. So thanks for your help.. B.

Hope this works. Tried to resize .
355ciSB 02-25-2007, 06:50:56 PM I have about the same setup in my Nova. A 468ci SRP dome pistons, 781 heads, stock crank and rods, roller rockers, Crane camshaft, and a torker 2 intake with a Holley 850 DP. Cant get power to the ground. Best in the 1/4 is 13.75 @ 103 MPH, no traction bars.

Thats a good lookin car.
al5570 02-25-2007, 09:24:58 PM and for my 500th post, i have to say that that is one good looking car, and to think it has a bb under the hood makes it even better. enjoy man, you have a nice nice ride.
Ryan 79 02-25-2007, 09:57:04 PM As someone who just paid to have his flat tops changed to forged dome pistons, DO IT NOW, and not later. You won't regret it, and changing pistons ain't cheap.
lorent Z/28 02-26-2007, 12:36:01 PM Thanks for the compliments. Still needs some minor work.
I've been reading a lot of posts on running domes with these heads. I'll just have to save my money up for it.
Thanks. B
MEGALADON 02-26-2007, 11:06:52 PM Not sure about the setup, but nice car!!
ZS10 02-26-2007, 11:15:20 PM I'm with Rust.
A nitrous kit and a couple bottles = however fast you want to go.
