hey guys.
well the shop that is assembling my engine finally called me and told me they had to do a couple things. i was just wondering what a fair price is for the extra work they did, so they dont try to rip me off or anything. they did

1) they had to recondition 3 rods
2) they honed the cylinders
3) they polished just a part of the crank. they said there was a small nick or something, so they just had to polish that, and it wasnt the whole thing.

I just dont want to know what is generally fair in case they throw out some bad number. thanks guys

Lots of things that could be included, or will be also added. These are just some average prices I have seen, doesn't mean it's what your shop should charge.

1. Recon rods it typically around $8 to $10 each. + rod bolts of your choice($35 to $80) , + pressing pistons off and on I don't know why you would only do 3. But whatever!

2. Hone,,, without a torque plate,, around $60 - $80, with a torque plate double that.

3. Polish the crank,, lots of inturpertation could be done there. Clean up a little nick and make sure that one throw it didn't get undersize,, $20,,, but.... mag and measure the crank, polish each journal, check final size isn't over the edge,,, $80 - $120 Just depends on how much care and effort they put into the job. Some shops will let the flunky parts cleaner polish a crank,,, some won't let anyone but the master machinist touch any crankshaft. Typically you get what you pay for there.

I think he is more upset with having to come up with more money than anything Marv said is all..

And like Marv mentioned, it's generally better to do a set, not part of them when you are this far along..

And this includes new bolts and nuts too for all the rods..

i dont mind spending the money if the work needed to be done, i have no problem with that, better safe than sorry. the shop just has taken way longer than they said all of this would take, so i just want to be prepared with a number so i sort of know what to expect. i know every case is different, but i just want to be ready. i dont mind spending the money, just dont want to get ripped off is all. and thanks again guys for all of the advice and help. ive just never had any of this done before, so i dont know what to expect, so thanks again!

Are you planning to have the rotating assy balanced?
